Power Plant Expansion – Equipment Upgrade, Operations and Financing

A government needed to expand their power generation capability. A European manufacturer of highly efficient equipment fueled by low-cost sludge sought assistance from Barbar & Associates to structure a joint project with the government to expand capacity in the country’s electrical grid. Barbar & Associates successfully approached the government with an attractive public-private financing and operations arrangement.

THE RESULT: The equipment manufacturer implemented the new power generation system and the country achieved a reliable, affordable source of electricity for its citizens.

Airport Expansion – Sovereign Nation

To attract tourism a country must offer modern, well-maintained airport facilities that can safely support large jet aircraft. Working closely with a sovereign government, Barbar & Associates helped its client establish a public-private partnership to expand and operate the airport in the nation’s capital city. This project included financing from the government of Brazil arranged by the Brazilian construction company selected to expand and maintain the facility. Debt repayment and ongoing infrastructure maintenance was financed through an increased facilities use tax.

THE RESULT: Barbar & Associates’ involvement helped facilitate the Brazilian company to deliver the vital infrastructure project with funding from the sovereign nation’s tourism taxes.

3 Water Desalination Treatment Plants – Infrastructure Development for Islands

When a country must maintain fresh water service on dozens of separate islands, the infrastructure and economic challenges often lead to reverse osmosis desalination treatment plants as the most effective option. Barbar & Associates was retained by its client to work with the government to help form a public-private partnership to build, operate and transfer three water desalination treatment plants serving the island chain.

THE RESULT: These projects helped supply potable water for the country’s citizens, strengthened local tourism development and supplemented agricultural and industrial expansion.
